AUTHOR'S NOTE.

With that, the curtains fall on the first portion of this story that’s actually worth a damn. Lucky for you, the stage crew is handing out backstage passes to everyone in the front row.

Did you miss us? We haven’t been far; it takes a metametric fuckload of work to keep an epic like this running, and there have been so many developments and last-minute-hiccups to keep track of since we popped out of the timeskip at the beginning of Act 2. See how I toil for you?

I can’t pretend it doesn’t feel good to be back, in bombastic coat-flashing, meteor-crashing, ship-slashing fashion. It’s just delightful to sow a little chaos in person, after so much time machinating from afar, and who could deny the pleasure of spending a few minutes catching up with old friends, even if it pisses them all the fuck off and serves only to confuse and scatter them to the cruel pockmarked planet below. I even had a bit of help from some surprise guests. Who would’ve thought?

Anyway, come on back here. Take a peek behind the curtain.

ROSE: Are you quite finished staring off into the distance, composing prose in your head? It’s about time we caught up with what we missed, and go over the results of The Contest.

DIRK: What the hell, sure.

DIRK: People love the prose I compose in my head, though.

ROSE: Mm.
