Hello all! Miles here, checking in more regularly once more at the tail end of this beautiful July.
How are you all doing? Well, I hope? We’re doing great on our end, busy as Swiss’ bees without all the hassle of being mangled by giant manthro horrors beyond comprehension. Re: our busy-ness, today’s check-in begins with an update on what everyone is anticipating the most: the upcoming flash! 8/01 is right around the corner, but the team and I wanted to preempt any further predictions or potential disappointment by clarifying that the flash will NOT be dropping this Saturday. Sorry! Our artists, guest artists, and compositors are all hard at work, but we’ll need a bit more time to give you what you so sorely desire, and I am nothing if not a merciful director and I don’t want people to crunch beyond their capabilities. Trust me, I think you’ll be satisfied with the end result. I have been looking forward to this one for a long, LONG time.
We will, of course, be offering a few more sneak peak teaser images for the impending flash early this month on our Patreon! You should subscribe, if you haven’t already, to help keep your ravenous flash-appetite in check with little appetizers until the main course arrives. I guess the point of appetizers is technically to make you even hungrier, which is doubtless going to be the effect of viewing these previews, but that’s good too. The Patreon does also get you access to the FRS-exclusive streams! We’ll be doing a few more preview streams on the Homestuck Discord before we retreat behind our little paywall, but if you had any fun watching us stumble and fumble all over the mountain last time, please do consider tuning in for our next preview. Things are liable to get a little bit... lethal... in our company...

One more thing before we go: it’s 8/01 Eve, and it’s been a year since Act 2 began; the team all want to share some messages with you guys! I’ll start.
MILES: Hi again! Miss me? I know my constant thanks are probably starting to get a little bit predictable but I’d be a dumb motherfucker not to make it known again here. It’s been a year since we started meeting the children of Deltritus, and a little over a year since I was honored beyond imagination with the privilege of being a Director on HS:BC, and in that past year I feel like my ever-exploding love for this comic has been matched only by the gratitude I feel for the incredible support you all show us. I have to admit that when we crossed Act 2’s threshold a lot of us were scared that none of you would give a fuck about these rambunctious new kids, but the love you’ve shown them is so, so exciting to see. It feels to me like a repetition of the acceptance the team and I felt when we relaunched the comic as HS:BC on another 10/8 date, not knowing whether we’d be welcomed with open arms or booed off the stage, only to discover that not only were people excited for our arrival but consistently supportive of our work as we forged forward.
I’m not gonna be shy about saying that I think we are Damn Good at what we do, nor am I going to be shy about saying that the Delta kids are Damn Good Kids, but I will say that it is a relief and an honor to know that you guys feel the same way, about both us and one incredible year of everyone’s new favorite babies. Here’s to more of both, and again, THANK YOU! We still have such sights to show you.
KIM: Damn, time really does fly! I still feel like we just barely started doing this comic, but we're actually pretty knee deep in this, aren't we!! (Though ever since I've started contributing anything to Homestuck since back in 2018, I've constantly been in a state of “I can't believe I'm here and I've gotten this far” even though it has been nearly eight years now LOL.) Likewise, I'm so honored to continue standing by Miles co-directing this comic. Since we started HS:BC, all I've ever wanted was for us to see it through till the end so that we can make something that we can all look back on and be proud of. I remember thinking, I wanted us to have such a sturdy foundation so that in the long term we could continue growing not only as a comic, but also as a group of creatives – and now we have, as our own studio!!! I'm so proud of how far we've come… I remember post-NYCstuck, as soon as I arrived back home, I immediately hung up my FRS happi coat on my wall because I was filled with so much pride for our studio. :’)
And once again, we've only gotten this far because it's all thanks to you – the fans! This has all been possible because of you guys showing your support simply just talking about the comic, loving our new kids, making fan works, supporting our Patreon, buying merchandise, etc. Thank you for earnestly loving what we make! Here's to a future where we can possibly continue bringing you guys engaging stories and you being there as the audience to participate in this conversation with us. 🥂

CHUMI: Isn’t it crazy that it’s been a year of Deltritus? And like (almost) 3 years of Beyond Canon? Time… is flying by… I remember us being so nervous about revealing the new kids, but you guys have really welcomed them with open arms and hearts… And gee, we have 3 more to reveal!!!! I’m so excited!!! Thank you for your support in any and all of the ways you guys choose to do so. Your engagement, kind words, art, music, fics, videos, etc. fuel my Prod Manager abilities. Also please keep talking about the kids because I love to eavesdrop!
Since we’re in this kind of mood, I’d also like to thank you guys for showing so much enthusiasm for the things we do outside of HS:BC as well. I’ll never forget NYCStuck as one of the biggest triumphs of my creative life and how it brought together literally over a thousand people (by the way, I’m working on NYCStuck shipments right now! About halfway through!). Thank you guys for being enthusiastic about events, merchandise, projects, and all our fun extracurriculars! Thank you for it all… And keep checking out Beyond Canon!
FLORAL: I’m trying to think of the words to express how grateful I am to be here, but it’s genuinely hard when none of the words I think of feel enough. So I’ll keep it simple by saying thank you to everyone reading the comic. In a time when it feels impossible to expect anything for dedicating ourselves to art, your support has allowed us to keep telling our story and keep drawing and keep animating. This next flash looks so good you guys, I can’t wait for you to see. Let us all keep playing and cheering and being merry, through these long working hours . There is no place I’d rather be, than right here beside my team.
KOHI: It's often such an unsettling feeling to look over your shoulder and see just how much time has passed since stepping into a project. Nearly 7 years since this comic launched as Homestuck^2, nearly 3 years since we re-launched as Homestuck: Beyond Canon, a whole year since we kicked off Act 2... these are incredible milestones in time that are forever etched into my identity and memory.
But even though coming to grips with the passage of time can be unsettling (oh god... I'm in my 30s now... I swear I'm not chopped I swear I'm not cooked auuugh), witnessing your own growth is always a big dopamine hit. Watching this project evolve, collaborating together as a team, spitballing wacky and outlandish ideas, making them happen, seeing the reactions from all our readers, doing it over and over again... on a personal level, it really is the secret sauce that keeps me going.
I can never give enough thanks to the other FRS members, or to you, the fans. This comic is a major part of my life, and I can't wait to see how each new update will continue to change it.
HAVEN: Good lord a whole year of Ly’lac, never in my wildest dreams could I have predicted the outpour of love for our dear sweet precious little nymph. We, FRS, are in such a different place from where we were back then it’s pretty crazy to think about. In that time we put out 4 [S] Pages, hosted NYCstuck, and wrote and drew hundreds of pages... I’m excited to keep going!! Writing is fun! Creating is fun!! And having an actual audience is especially fun!!! Thank you for sticking along. I know I’m a bit of a broken record about it but just being here at all means so much to me, and the fact that you’re here reading our story means even more. Back in NYC a convo with some friends made me realize I'm the kind of person who can only really put my thoughts and feelings into my art and comics, just writing it out or blogging about it never really worked for me. In that sense everything I write for HSBC is an ongoing continuous love letter to Homestuck, this comic lets me say all things I’ve felt about this life changing story that I had never really found a way to articulate otherwise. And with all that we end up with Ly’lac, dear sweet oh so precious little Ly’lac. Ly’lac was a crystallization of all those thoughts and feelings and fears and anxieties and theories and experiences I've had on my 15 year journey with Homestuck. She really does mean so much to me. It’s still so surreal to see everyone talk about her. I’m so happy that you knew her and loved her. I’m even happy if you hated her.

ANDI: Seriously, as everyone else said, words don’t describe how thankful and GRATEFUL we are that you guys gave us a shot when Homestuck: Beyond Canon was re-launched back in 2023. Your enthusiasm for it is what made Homestuck acquire a new wave of readers and an ever-growing fandom that’s excited and eager to see what's gonna happen next. It’s the reason why we could even have something like NYCstuck happen. Things have gotten so powered up at this point in time, I'm thrilled to show you what it looks like when we max out our powers for this next flash. It just feels really good to have all this, yknow? Where would we all be without it? And where would we even be without all of you? Nowhere as good as this, to be honest. I’m just happy everyone reading now is gaining a real-time comic experience, something you can only experience once. I’m honored to do that here with you. I’m honored to do art AND music with you too, since recently I’ve been appointed as music director. Trust me when I say our flashes are going to have the most sublime tracks with old and new blood! I am very passionate about sound so this new role is going to be exciting for me. Anyway, thank you for everything. And thank you to my team, one thing that we don’t often show is how close we are as a group and how everything we do, we do together. We’re not only a team, but we’re all very close friends who love Homestuck and love working on creating things together, so I can’t thank them enough for the support, friendship and kindness they bring me.
