Hey all! Miles and Kim here, and we want to start off with a big announcement:
The Homestuck Independent Creative Union (HICU) is now Furthest Ring Studios (FRS)!
This change is happening for a few reasons, and we want to get into them right here, right now! Change is scary, we know, but one of the first things we want to emphasize is that this is fundamentally not that big of a change at all.
The HICU was made back in 2023 as a way to revive Homestuck^2, and to collect a group of artists together under one organization as a licensee so that we were able to continue the comic that became Homestuck: Beyond Canon and monetize it to support our work! Along the way, HICU members have also participated in a wide range of other Homestuck-related activities; we’ve done PR, we’ve worked with FRAF/the forums, both Kim and I have done work on Hiveswap, we’ve run 4/13 events, helped design and sell merch, etc. We’re all involved to varying degrees in Homestuck’s public face, and for a while, we were essentially the ONLY public face of Homestuck, which was as fun and rewarding as it was kind of a daunting responsibility.
However, Homestuck’s public face is different now! The IP is way more active than it was two years ago; Hiveswap is back in the limelight, there’s an Official Homestuck Discord™, and, of course, there’s the matter of the incredible Spindleroo pilot. Homestuck Itself, the colloquial Homestuck Official™, is back in a much more active capacity, and one of the things we’ve consistently noticed over the past two years is that there have been a lot of occasions where the difference between the HICU and Homestuck Official has been hard for people to see, partially because the HICU has been trusted to do almost all of Homestuck’s communicating for it during most of that period.
That’s a big part of why this name change is happening. We’re still the same people, making the same comic in the same way, and we still rely on your incredible support to do what we do, but us and Homestuck both wanted it to be clearer who was who, and the fact that we used to be called the Homestuck Independent Creative Union has occasionally muddied that. Rest assured, we are not going ANYWHERE; we’re still very active participants in Homestuck’s big extended family, Homestuck: Beyond Canon has still got years left to go, you’ll still see us at all sorts of Homestuck events, and I am never going to shut up. You are, for better or worse, stuck with us.
Who knows, when HS:BC is over, we might even make something new! This team loves each other a lot.
