HS:BC 3 Year Anniversary & Monthly Check-in — October 2026

Let’s start with the obvious: today marks the 3 year anniversary of HSBC’s runtime! Holy shit? In one sense it totally flew by, but in another sense it’s become such a fundamental part of my life that it feels like we’ve sort of always been here. 3 years is kind of a crazy milestone because it’s so hard to decide whether to be more happy about the past we built to get here or the future we’re fighting hard towards every day, so I hope you’ll all forgive us for multitasking. Our recent run has been kind of fucking insane though so maybe it’s okay to focus a little in the past. I mean, that last [S] page? Nested diegetic author’s metacommentary? I’m not gonna be shy about saying that we’re kind of on fire right now. We might get a bit cute about fishing for compliments every now and then but please do keep ‘em coming, because the love means everything to us.
Being able to make this comic for you guys is one of the utmost pleasures and chiefest honors of our lives so it is a joy beyond description that you’ve all stuck around with us to keep this train going because there is still more amazing stuff to come and we are literally thrashing and gnashing our teeth like rabid beasts with the excitement of being able to get it to you. Believe me. I promise you that however stoked you are, however desperately you crave more, we are even more tortured by the intoxicating anticipation of having to wait for you to see it all. But while there was a point early on where the magnitude of what we wanted to achieve still felt so abstract (it felt like the Delta kids would never arrive, and now they’re everyone’s favorite little babies!), now I can say that the momentum we’ve got going is such that it all feels so real and beautiful. And if anything, that only makes us more anxious and crazy to get it to you!
To that end, I want to offer a little apology that we don’t have an update for you all today. It might’ve been hard to top the magnitude of the last two we dropped (although all the next ones are looking absolutely deeelicious) but instead of saving those for 10/8 like a bunch of miserly psychopaths we wanted to keep you guys fed and happy earlier. In pursuit of keeping you fed and happy, rest assured that we are grinding away industriously in the background, one collective will bent towards More, More, MORE, but we are of course also human beings and keeping this comic not just quantitatively but qualitatively robust is a priority we can only achieve if we remember not to blow ourselves up. The temptation’s always there, though...!
All that said, more’s coming soon! We’re racing along and will be back to dropping soon enough later this month and the next... all of them should be pretty damn awesome. So please look forward to it. [laughs]

What else? You all deserve a little treat but first let’s talk business for a bit. We want to remind folks that Patreon is going to be switching to subscription billing on November 1st, which means that all existing Patreon members will now be billed on the first of each month. NEW members will be billed monthly on the day of the month that they signed up. Just want to make sure everyone’s aware of this, so we’ll probably make a few more announcements of that before November!

Of particular note is the following: you may want to save some holiday cash for early in the new year, because there might be something coming down the new year’s chimney that many of you have been asking for for quite a while... and they’ll need your help to make it home safe.
I always end these thanking the shit out of you guys. In fact I always spend the majority of each newspost thanking the shit out of you guys. I could go back to any previous newspost and I know for a fact I’d reliably be caught weeping with appreciative joy. The reason for that is because there has been no point at all during these past 3 years where I haven’t been completely overwhelmed by awesome gratitude to you all, to Andrew, to life and the world itself for allowing me the soul-alteringly incredible privilege of getting to do the coolest job in the world. Maybe one day I’ll run out of ways to say that (though as a writer I’ll be happy to tackle the challenge) but you better believe I’ll never stop feeling it.
